Lavender - French ( Lavandula angustifolia )

Extraction is by steam distillation.

Odour - sweet, floral herbaceous with a pleasant, balsamic-woody undertone.

History - Traditionally used as lavender water and in bags to perfume clothes and linen, and to keep moths away. The most popular and versatile essential oil.

Uses - has been used for insomnia (1 drop on a tissue of cotton-wool under the pillow at bedtime). It is useful for treating burns, cuts, grazes, sunburn, for insect bites, wounds, dermatitis, eczema, boils, acne. Its harmonising and balancing effect make it useful for stress, calming the mind, alleviating fears and emotional agitation. Helpful for relieving premenstrual tension and menstrual pain (use in a compress). Useful for all skin types. Can be used around the home for its antiseptic properties e.g. 1 drop in a steam iron.

Blends with -  most other essential oils.

Safety - non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitising
