Cardamon Seed ( Elettaria cardamomum )

Extraction is by steam distillation of the dried ripe seeds.

Odour - Sweet-spicy, warm fragrance with woody-balsamic note.

History - Long used as a condiment and medicine in India, also used by the Romans and Arabs to settle digestive problems. Hippocrates used it for sciatica and bites of venomous creatures. 
 

Uses - Uplifting and refreshing it warms the senses and is useful for feelings of weakness and fatigue.  Particularly good for digestive problems as it stimulates the appetite, settles the stomach and eases nausea. It stimulates the lungs and helps to expel phlegm thereby easing coughs and bronchitis.  

Blends well with - bergamot, caraway. cedarwood, eucalyptus, frankincense, lemon, neroli, peppermint, ylang ylang.

Safety - Non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitising.
