Juniperberry B.P.C. ( Juniperius communis )
Extraction is by steam distillation of the berries
Odour - clear, refreshing and slightly woody.
History - current in the British Pharmacopoeoa. An ingredient in gin. A good household disinfectant.
Uses - an effective detoxifier and diuretic it is used to help eliminate uric acid when treating gout, arthritis and rheumatism. Valuable for the treatment of cellulite. Useful when treating cystitis and pyelitis ; helpful in relieving retention of urine when the prostate is enlarged. A useful oil for menstrual cramps and regulating periods. A useful oil for oily and congested skin, acne, blocked pores, dermatitis, weeping eczema, psoriasis and inflammations. Use its astringent properties in the bath, or as a local wash, for haemorrhoids. Clears, stimulates and strengthens the nerves; purifies the atmosphere; associated with spiritual purification, clears negative energy.
Blends with - bergamot, cypress, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, orange, lavender, rosemary, sandalwood.
Safety - non-toxic, non-sensitising, may be slightly irritating. Avoid in pregnancy.
