Manuka ( Leptospernum scoparium )
Extraction is by steam distillation of the leaves Odour - elusive but sweet and gentle, woody, earthy History - sometimes called New Zealand Tea tree although it is only very distantly related to Tea tree. Long history of use by the Maori people for bronchitis, rheumatism and similar conditions. Uses - with its anti-viral, anti-fungal and bactericidal properties it is a useful oil for all respiratory tract infections such as colds, catarrh, sinusitis, bronchitis. It is also reduces nasal mucous. It can be vaporised as a preventative during the winter months or added to the bath. The antiseptic properties can be useful in skin care when it will help with cuts, spots, boils, ulcers particularly when healing is slow. As a local analgesic it is helpful for muscular pain and rheumatism. Blends with - the chamomiles, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, the citrus oils, niaouli. Safety - non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitising
