Clary Sage ( Salvia sclarea )
Extraction is by steam distillation of the flowerings tops and leaves.
Odour - fruity-floral-herbaceous, nutty and heavy smell.
History - In the middle ages it was sometimes substituted for hops in brewing beer. Mediaeval writers called the herb 'clear eye'. uses - valuable for treating nervousness, weakness, fear, paranoia and depression. Helps reduce deep seated tension, yet remains stimulating, regenerative and revitalizing. Calms the mind and restores lucidity. In skin care for oily skin and hair, acne, wrinkles. Helpful for menstrual problems including easing painful, lower back cramps. Useful during the menopause for hot flushes, dizziness, headaches, night sweats, palpitations and irritability. Also used for high blood pressure, muscular aches and pains.
Blends with - bergamot, cedarwood, the chamomiles, frankincense, geranium, lavender, marjoram, neroli, sandalwood and ylang ylang.
Safety - non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitising. not to be used in pregnancy. Do not take alcohol when using Clary sage.
